Amoravontuur

Hey yal! My name is Kay Elizabeth and I am a New Orleans girl who loves to travel!

Myself and Joseph Mackey

I jumped off the porch early, and began my travel experience at the very young age of 2 years old. I spent much time with my godparents Vera and Joseph Mackey, who took me everywhere with them. We really dipped for whole summers lol. Often times we frequented Atlanta, Maryland, Houma and a couple other places that slip my mind at the moment. Thinking back, this is were my Love for Travel began. Thank you for taking this journey with me as I look back on past trips and explore many more in the future. Welcome to Amor Avontuur!

The Joce

Student of Eleanor McMain High School ’04

As I stated previously, I was born and raised in New Orleans! This is a fact that I am very proud of. I attended private church school until 9th grade, where I then transferred to thee Eleanor McMain Secondary Magnet High School. Attending private school then entering the world of public school gave me a bit of a culture shock. But you’re sleep if you think I didn’t have the time of my life, because I did! This new chapter gave me an intimate view of our culture, one that I grew to love and hold so near and dear to my heart!

Some things that I love about New Orleans culture is the act of us saying, “Good Morning,” to random passers by, the food and most of all our colloquialisms. New Orleans is known for having it’s own dialect and I am bringing that to you in this blog; hence “The Joce!

Down here the act of jocing means anything you do to pass the time away or the act of conversing. If you noticed the italicized words, these are sayings we use in everyday language. I’ll be dropping  more gems and keeping you updated on lifestyle and trips during our jokes, stay tuned

Travel gives me EVERYTHING, LIFE! When I reflect on how big of an impact being able to see the world has has on my life, this phrase comes to mind, “Travel is not reward for working, it’s education for living.” That quote couldn’t have been more true when I thought about the reasons I wanted to start this travel blog. But before I get into those reasons, let me explain what the words Amor Avontuur mean!

Independence Arch, Accra, Ghana

The word amor is a Latin word, which means love. Plain and simple! Love! I don’t know about you, but love for me is a profoundly, intense feeling. Something serious! Avontuur is an Afrikaans/Dutch word, that means adventure or travel. My need for using this word came about after I experienced a trip to the magical West African country of Ghana, which came about after ear hustling on a conversation taking place at my job. The time I spent in Accra, awakened a warmth in me that you’ll be able to read about later! Avontuur also happens to be the name of a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa that I hope to visit one day

I thought that these two words were very fitting for the name of my blog because they state so boldly what I love. I love adventure, I love food, I love travel, I love exploring and learning about new cultures and also being able to bring the story to you! The world is vast, beautiful and I want to see and taste is all!

Amor Avontuur will enlighten, inform and most of all open your eyes to the world around us. So lets Eat Well & Travel OftenAre you bout that life?
